Writing Part 2.
Dear Resident,
Thank you for contacting the council about your recent experience at the civic recycling centre. We aim to provide a safe and efficient service for everyone.
Firstly, we would like to know your opinion of our staff. Were they able to assist you appropriately? (1)
Secondly, we would like to hear your views on the organisation of the centre. Did you find it easy to access the correct area for your waste? (2)
Finally, please share any suggestions you may have for improving the service for residents. (3)Yours faithfully,
Customer Support Team
Local Council
Your notes:
- 1. Staff were polite but seemed poorly informed about what can be recycled
- 2. Entrance signs were confusing and queues were badly managed
- 3. Loud announcements every few minutes felt stressful; prefer calmer environment
Writing Part 3
Low-emission zones (LEZs)
Your notes:
- LEZs restrict the most polluting vehicles from entering certain city areas.
- Common in large city centres; often enforced using number-plate recognition cameras.
- Benefits: improved air quality; fewer respiratory problems; quieter streets; encourages public transport and cycling.
- Drawbacks: can be expensive for drivers and small businesses (upgrading vehicles); concerns about fairness for low-income residents.
- Some cities offer exemptions, grants or phased introduction to reduce negative impact.
Changes after introducing LEZs (selected cities)
| City | Country | Year introduced | Estimated NO₂ reduction in city centre | Urban population |
| London | United Kingdom | 2019 | 36% | 8 million |
| Madrid | Spain | 2018 | 23% | 3.3 million |
| Milan | Italy | 2012 | 18% | 1.4 million |
